It is becoming harder day by day to identify which images and videos are real and which ones have been created or edited using artificial intelligence (AI).
To help reduce fake information and misleading content on social media, the popular messaging platform WhatsApp is working on a new feature called “AI Content Label.”
The feature is designed to clearly indicate whether an image or video shared through the app has been created or modified using AI technology.
According to reports from technology sources, the feature is currently being tested for iPhone users.
The feature is reportedly available to selected TestFlight users on the iOS 26.34.10.70 beta version.
With this new feature, WhatsApp Channel admins will be able to add a special label to images, videos, or other media when the content has been created or modified using AI.
If content posted on a WhatsApp Channel has been created using AI, the channel admin will be able to select the “AI Content Label” option from the Channel Updates menu.
Once the admin confirms the option, the label will become visible on the related media file.
As a result, viewers will be able to understand more easily that the content was created with the help of AI technology.
However, once the AI label is added, it reportedly cannot be changed or removed later.
Therefore, admins should carefully check the content before adding the label.
As AI technology continues to develop quickly, the use of artificially generated images and videos is also increasing.
In this situation, clearly identifying AI-generated content could help improve transparency and reduce misleading information.
The feature could be especially useful for channels that regularly publish news or information-based images and videos.
A clear label can help viewers understand the nature of the content before they make assumptions about whether it is authentic.
The feature is currently in the testing stage, so it is not yet available to all iPhone or Android users.
WhatsApp may continue testing and improving the feature before making it available more widely.
If testing goes well, the feature could eventually be rolled out to more users around the world.
