YouTube Premium Price Increase: What Changed, When, and Why

A YouTube Premium price increase is a rise in the monthly fee for ad-free YouTube, background play, downloads, and YouTube Music. The newest rounds are real but uneven by country. In the US, the individual plan went from $13.99 to $15.99 in April 2026, and the family plan went from $22.99 to $26.99. In parts of Europe and Asia, reported hikes run from roughly 10% to 17%, with bills changing from late September 2026.

This guide explains why the increases matter, how to check your own price and billing date, what each plan costs now, and what you can do about it. Prices change country by country, so you will see which numbers are confirmed and which come from subscriber reports.

At AroraShop, we sell YouTube Premium to buyers in Bangladesh who pay with bKash, Nagad, or Rocket, so we track every change to the plan lineup. Many of you ask whether a hike elsewhere will hit your account. The answer depends on your region.

Why the YouTube Premium price increase matters

The increase matters because a few dollars a month becomes a real yearly cost, and hikes now arrive close together. In the US, the individual plan costs $24 more per year and the family plan $48 more per year than before April 2026.

What the extra cost adds up to

Monthly prices hide the yearly effect. Here is what the reported increases mean over twelve months:

  • US individual: $13.99 to $15.99 is $2 more per month, or $24 per year.
  • US family: $22.99 to $26.99 is $4 more per month, or $48 per year.
  • Europe individual (reported in Portugal and Italy): €17.99 to €20.99 is €3 more per month, or €36 per year.

A small monthly bump turns into a large yearly bill once you count every plan in the household.

How often prices have risen

The US plan rose by $2 to $13.99 in July 2023. The April 2026 change was the first US increase since then. Europe's prices had reportedly stayed flat since 2024 until the latest round. If you searched for a 2024 YouTube Premium price increase, that is the last European change before this one.

Why Google says prices went up

Google's help page says it occasionally updates membership prices to keep up with market changes, including inflation and local tax changes. For the US hike, a YouTube spokesperson said the update supports creators and artists and keeps features like ad-free viewing and background play.

Google has not published a market-by-market explanation for the Europe and Asia round. The timing fits a wider pattern. Netflix raised US prices in 2026, and Spotify moved its US individual plan from $11.99 to $12.99.

How to check your price and billing date

The fastest check is the Purchases and memberships page in your YouTube account. It shows your plan, your price, and your next billing date. YouTube also emails existing members at least 30 days before a YouTube Premium price increase takes effect.

Steps to check your plan

  1. Open YouTube in the app or browser, signed in to the account that pays for Premium.
  2. Tap your profile picture and open Purchases and memberships.
  3. Select your Premium membership to see the plan, current price, and next billing date.
  4. Search your inbox for the price-change email, which should arrive at least 30 days before the new rate.

Google explains its notice rules on its page about price changes for YouTube paid products. Your own account page is the final word, because pricing differs by country.

When the new price starts

Existing members move to the new rate on the first billing cycle at least 30 days after their plan's price rises. For the latest Europe and Asia round, reports point to the next billing date on or after September 23, 2026. Some European subscriber reports pointed to October.

In the US, new sign-ups paid the higher price immediately. Existing members were billed at the new rates from their June 2026 cycle. Two people in the same country can therefore pay the new price on different dates.

Your billing date, not the announcement date, decides when the higher price hits your card.

New YouTube Premium prices by plan and region

The new prices are confirmed for the US and reported for parts of Europe and Asia. Nothing confirmed covers every country, because YouTube sets prices market by market.

US prices after April 2026

Plan Before After Premium individual $13.99 $15.99 Premium family $22.99 $26.99 Premium Lite $7.99 $8.99 YouTube Music individual $10.99 $11.99 YouTube Music family $16.99 $18.99

The family plan covers up to six accounts including the manager. YouTube's US page also lists a student plan at $8.99 per month for eligible students.

Europe and Asia prices from late 2026

Market Individual before Individual after Rise Portugal, Italy (reported) €17.99 €20.99 about 16.7% Finland (reported) €14.99 €16.99 about 13.3%

Reported emails put the family plan at €29.99 in those markets. Romania and Singapore also appear in reports, and no UK change has been confirmed. These figures come from subscribers' emails, so treat them as reported prices until YouTube lists them.

What this means in Bangladesh

Bangladesh does not appear in the reported lists, and the current YouTube Premium price in BD is covered separately. Do not assume a hike elsewhere sets your price. Check your account, and expect an email first if your plan changes.

What to do about the YouTube Premium price increase

If you watch YouTube daily, Premium still earns its cost. If you watch a few videos a week, the YouTube Premium price increase is a good moment to reconsider. Decide on usage, not habit.

Decide whether Premium still pays off

Count the features you use. Ad-free viewing, background play, offline downloads, and YouTube Music each carry part of the price. If you use only one, a cheaper tier or the free version may be enough.

Cut the cost without losing features

Splitting a family plan is the strongest lever. At $26.99, six people sharing pay about $4.50 each, versus $15.99 for one individual plan. Premium Lite at $8.99 in the US removes ads from most videos but drops music, offline saving, and background playback.

If you are in Bangladesh and lack an international card, you can buy YouTube Premium on AroraShop with local mobile payments. Compare the plan on offer against your own use before you commit.

Where the price increases leave you

The main point is simple. YouTube raised prices in the US in April 2026 and in parts of Europe and Asia from late September 2026. Google points to inflation, taxes, and creator support. Your own bill depends on your country and billing date.

Check your Purchases and memberships page, read any email from YouTube, and weigh the yearly cost against how much you use the features. If you are in Bangladesh and want a plan that fits your budget and local payment methods, see the YouTube Premium options at AroraShop.
